isiZulu.net is an attempt to build a free Zulu-English online dictionary with a modern Zulu vocabulary. Besides the usual bidirectional lookups it offers automatic morphological decomposition, conjugation and phonetic spelling of Zulu words, simple phrase translation, spell checking and basic grammar and pronunciation guides.
Anyone can contribute new words to the dictionary through the forum. The quality of the entries is only as good as its contributions.
The dictionary can be queried through a REST web service that returns JSON data. If you would like to use it just send me an e-mail for user account setup and instructions. It is still in a testing phase, though.
There will be a talk about isiZulu.net given at the AFRILEX Conference in July. A Quantum of Fame. :-)
On 2011-01-31 at 0:00 CET the IP address of isiZulu.net will change from 212.227.216.113 to 217.160.40.105. This should™ take place smoothly. However, if you encounter connection problems you might have to restart your browser and maybe even clear your DNS cache.
Due to a synflood attack, the server hosting isiZulu.net was only poorly reachable between about 14:00 and 16:00 CET.
An offline version of the dictionary is now available for download.
